Off-duty Lakeland cop arrested for battery

LAKELAND, Florida -- A Lakeland police officer has been charged with battery after authorities say he got into a road rage fight while off-duty.

The incident was caught on video. Police say Officer Jerry Monroe was driving with his son when another driver cut him off. That driver, Andy Jones, then pulled into a parking lot, and that's when police say Monroe pushed him and the two started to struggle.

Monroe body slams Jones onto the concrete in the video. Then, according to witnesses and the police report, he repeatedly punched Jones while he was on the ground.

Strong storms knock trees onto houses

Storms continue to push south across , Polk, Highlands, Hardee, Desoto and Sarasota counties.

There have been numerous reports of hail stemming from these storms, and 10 News has learned of trees falling on houses in Seffner and in Zephyrhills. There's no word on any injuries at this time.

Florida city abuzz: Who among us won Powerball jackpot?

USA- Today --The Florida sun was shining a little bit brighter Sunday on an unidentified person who beat odds of 175 million-to-1 on a Powerball ticket worth $590.5 million, the largest jackpot in the game's history.

The lucky numbers in Saturday night's drawing were 10, 13, 14, 22 and 52, with a Powerball of 11. A mob of media and the curious amassed Sunday outside the Zephyr Commons Publix supermarket, in the Tampa suburb of Zephyrhills, where the winning ticket was sold.

Lakeland mom shoots son in self defense

Lakeland, Florida -- A 86-year-old woman shot and killed her own son in self-defense. 

On Friday, May 17, a Polk County Sheriff's Office deputy in the Reynolds Road area heard multiple gun shots coming from Orange Blossom Circle and Reynolds Road. 

As the deputy began to investigate the noise, he saw 86-year-old Nancy Pennypacker exiting her residence, and heard her yelling for help.
