Polk County Fire Rescue welcomes new Deputy Chief

Bartow, Florida -- Polk County Fire Rescue is pleased to welcome Michael J. Choate, CFO as its newest Deputy Chief.

Michael comes from Hardee County were he worked for the past 21 years, most recently serving as Fire Rescue Chief/Public Safety Director. He graduated Hardee High School and went on to attend Columbia Southern University where he earned his A.S. and B.S. in Fire Science.

Lakeland sex attack suspect is just 14

Lakeland, Florida -- On Monday, Lakeland police said the man in a hotel surveillance video was the suspect in a brutal sexual assault Sunday at the Hyatt Lakeland Center.

It turns out that man -- all five-foot-seven, 215 pounds of him -- is a 14-year-old boy.

Police: 14-year-old confesses to Hyatt Hotel sex attack

Lakeland, Florida -- Lakeland Police have arrested a teenager who they say admitted to brutally attacking a woman at the Hyatt Hotel at the Lakeland Center on March 18.

Police say they were able to identify 14-year-old Corey Lee Sutton as a possible suspect in the attack on March 20. Despite his age, Corey stands approximately 5'7" and weighs about 215 pounds, according to detectives.

Some parents oppose high school's uniform policy

Lakeland, Florida - Either by voicemail or email, Tina Glendenning says her son's school keeps parents informed just about everything.  

"We get emails about everything: tutoring, pep rallies, fundraisers," says Tina about Lake Gibson Senior High School.

Except Tina says Lake Gibson never called about a new uniform policy for next year until after the decision was made. Tina says, "Nobody bothered to give us a phone call or email about a meeting about a new dress code or uniform policy."

Mulberry, FL -- Professional barbeque teams from across Polk County will come together on Saturday, March 24, 2012 to host the Arnulfo Crispin BBQ & Live Auction Benefit.

The event will take place from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the American Legion (Post 72) located at 1500 State Road 37 North in Mulberry.

A live auction will be held at 2 p.m. where guests can bid on current sports memorabilia, outdoor activities and much more.

LAKELAND, Fla. (CBS Tampa- A local atheist organization made a splash on Saturday when they symbolically washed away a blessing placed on a major highway into the county one year ago.

The tongue-in-cheek protest on County Road 98 was meant to bring light to a bigger issue seen by the Humanists of Florida Association - an issue of seeming conflicts of interest between several high-seated county officials and their faiths.
