Lakeland, FL -- Colin Creel, the man Polk County Sheriff's detectives issued a warrant for today, June 21 for the Armed Robbery of the Marathon Food Mart in Lakeland Sunday, was arrested outside a Beef O Brady's restaurant in north Lakeland.

 

According to police, around 2 p.m., detectives received information Creel was at the restaurant and waited outside for him to leave. When Creel came out of the restaurant and saw police, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by a PCSO K-9 team.

Lakeland, FL -- The Lakeland City Commission voted to increase the fuel charge for Lakeland Electric customers 15 cents per 1,000 kWh effective for meters read on or after June 30. 

The new fuel charge will be $50.65 per 1,000 kWh.  As of June 30, Lakeland Electric residential customers will pay $110.17 for 1,000 kWh of electricity.

After listening to a staff presentation at the June 20, Utility Committee Meeting, the Lakeland Electric Utility Committee recommended to increase the current fuel charge.  The City Commission reconvened and approved the recommendation.

Police identify Marathon robber

Lakeland, FL -- Polk County Sheriff's Robbery detectives have positively identified the man responsible for the Armed Robbery at the Marathon Food Mart Sunday.

The man, identified as 26-year-old Colin Creel, of 3115 Socrum Loop Road in Lakeland, has a warrant out for his arrest and is currently on probation for Petit Theft.

He may be driving a metallic blue/green Toyota Avalon with FL tag 597 5GU. He is to be considered ARMED and DANGEROUS.

Police search for Lakeland robber

Lakeland, FL -- Polk County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for the public’s help in a robbery investigation at the Marathon Food Mart located at 1950 Dranefield Road in Lakeland.

According to police, on Sunday, June 19, at approximately 8:09 p.m., a man came into the store and got drink from the cooler.  When he got to the counter to pay, he told the clerk that he had forgotten his money.  He went out to his car, came back, told the clerk he got the wrong drink and went back to the cooler to get another one.

He came back to the counter to pay for the new drink and when the clerk opened the register, the man pulled out a gun and demanded the money.  He then jumped the counter, took the money from the register and several packs of Newport cigarettes from the display behind the counter.

School psychologists participate in Autism Awareness Event

School psychologists participate in Autism Awareness Event

School psychologists from the Polk County Public Schools participated in the 2011 Central Florida Autism Institute’s Walk/Run for Autism Awareness at Lakeland’s Lake Hollingsworth.

The psychologists wore their staff shirts and interacted with attendees at the event and visitors to their booth. Their booth included sidewalk chalk, bubbles, a train set, games and puzzles. 

While children were engaged in the activities, the psychologists were able to share with their parents and other community members about the services the psychologists provide to students.

Water main break closes US 98

Water main break closes US 98

Lakeland, FL -- The northbound lanes of US 98, just north of Combee Road, are still closed due to a washout caused by an underground water main break.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the both lanes were closed in that area around 3:22 a.m. Monday due to the break. The southbound lanes were reopened around 6:32 Monday morning.

Northbound vehicles are being diverted north onto Combee Road and then west onto Commerce Point (formerly A-Z Parkway) back to US 98.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area all together if possible until repairs are made.
