Tie-dye T-shirts From Traviss raise $750 for Susan G. Komen

Tie-dye T-shirts From Traviss raise $750 for Susan G. Komen

Students at Lakeland’s Traviss Career Center donated $750 to representatives of the Susan G. Komen cancer awareness organization on May 13 at the school.

The students raised the money by producing and selling pink tie-dye T-shirts with either a ribbon or heart design.

The students sold more than 120 shirts and Traviss designated May 13 as “Think Pink” day to coincide with the donation to Susan G. Komen.  All Traviss students and staff purchasing a tie-dye shirt were encouraged to wear the shirts on that day.

Students did the project in a unit titled “Modeling a Business” as part of teacher Suzan Harrell’s Advanced Algebra with Financial Applications class. Her class is composed of students enrolled in Traviss’ high school program.
