Lakeland Police arrest vehicle burglary suspect | Crime
Lakeland, Florida -- Lakeland police arrest a man who claimed to be gator fishing in a local subdivision with vehicle burglary.
According to Lakeland police, Officer Shawn Hohnstreiter responded to a call in the Bridgewater subdivision on Jan. 5 at approximately 7:50 a.m. of a suspicious person carrying a green backpack hopping fences in back yards of the subdivision.
Hohnstreiter arrived in the area and observed a man walking near a lake in the subdivision.
The man, identified as Rodney Leon Boyd, Jr., 19, of 5309 Oakway Drive in Lakeland was soaking wet.
Boyd claimed he was just coming out of the lake and had been gator fishing. Officer Hohnstreiter observed a green backpack in the lake, fished it out, and found it contained various items of property. Boyd also had a small flashlight and a pair of spiderman gloves in his pocket.
Officers were able to locate some of the property owners and found their vehicles had been burglarized and the belongings in Boyd's possession had been stolen. Boyd admitted to burglarizing several vehicles in the subdivision.
Boyd was arrested and charged with Burglary to a Conveyance.
