Polk County Public Schools to salute Veterans this Friday | Community Spirit

Since 1919, America has celebrated Veteran’s Day on the 11th day of the 11th month.  At Polk County Public Schools, no less than three Veteran’s Day events will be held this Friday, Nov. 11, 2011, to honor all those who have served:

1. Veteran’s Day Assembly will be held at R. Bruce Wagner Elementary in Lakeland. The school program will start at 8:10 a.m. at the school’s Physical Education Pavilion and the public is invited to attend.  The program will consist of music by the school chorus, readings by students, recognition of Veterans, and a special guest speaker, Kevin Agan, who is a local Veteran.
2. Summerlin Academy Cadets will hold a ceremony that honors all past and present military personnel.  The Cadet Corps will present a formal militaristic pass and review from 9:20 -11:00 a.m. at IMC/Mosaic Park, across the street from the Polk County Public Schools District Office on Floral Avenue in Bartow.
3. Veteran’s Day event will be held at Summerlin Academy, 1500 S. Jackson Avenue in Bartow.  The Summerlin Lacrosse team will be preparing and sending comfort packages to the members of the 1st Cavalry, Renegade 6 Company, which is now deployed in Afghanistan.  The comfort packages will consist of toiletries, magazines, snacks, sports equipment, and drink mixes.
