Health officials recommend getting immunizations early

Bartow, Florida -- The Polk County Health Department is reminding parents and guardians that back-to-school is just around the corner.

It's time, according to health officials, to check the immunization status of children to be sure they meet school requirements.

"We encourage everyone to get your child up-to-date with their immunizations and not wait for the school rush," said Dr. Daniel O. Haight, PCHD Director.

"Now is the best time to update your children's immunizations and provide them with the required documentation to attend school," he said.

Parents, say health workers, should encourage healthcare providers to give all age-appropriate shots to their child during each visit.

Documentation for required immunizations is mandatory for all students entering, attending, or transferring into a Polk County school in grades pre-Kindergarten through 12.
