Second rabies case this year hits Polk County | Health
Lakeland, FL -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office confirmed today, Aug. 17, the second positive case of rabies in the county this year.
According to police, on Aug. 11, the resident's dogs found a bat in their backyard on Shimmering Drive in Lakeland. Both dogs attacked the bat and killed it.
The bat taken by animal control officers and was sent for rabies testing. The State Laboratory confirmed today it was positive for rabies.
The dogs, had received recent rabies but will be quarantined for 45 days as a precaution.
