The Polk County Sheriff's Office has shut down a street in Highland City after a sinkhole opened up in the road.
The county transportation department says the sinkhole, measuring about 8 feet wide, caused the closure of Orange Avenue SE, near 7th Street SE intersection late Thursday afternoon.
Motorists are urged to use a different route while crews work on the sinkhole.
