Former Polk School Board Official sentenced for Bribery | News
Bartow, Florida -- Bob Williams, the former Polk County School Board member who admitted to taking bribes from a construction company, has been sentenced to two years in prison.
He faced a maxuimum of up to five years.
In sentencing Williams, U.S. District Judge Richard Lazzara said he believed 68-year-old Williams was sorry for what he had done.
In his role as an Assistant Superintendent, Williams was partly responsible for deciding which companies would be chosen for school construction and repair projects.
Prosecutors had accused Williams of taking bribes in the form of trips and other gifts.
He plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery.
