TALLAHASSEE, Florida (AP) - The Board of Governors is seeking trustee applicants for Florida's newest public university.
The board on Tuesday announced a national search for five trustees for the state's 12th public university, Florida Polytechnic in Lakeland. The application deadline is May 31.
Each university has a 13-member board of trustees. Besides the five appointed by the Board of Governors, six are appointed by the governor. The student body president and leader of the Faculty Senate at each school also serve as trustees.
Gov. Rick Scott last month signed legislation creating the university out of what had been a University of South Florida branch campus.
The legislation pushed by Senate Budget Committee Chairman JD Alexander, a Lake Wales Republican, accelerated a conversion process previously approved by the Board of Governors.
