Lakeland Police adds a new community information system | News
Lakeland, Florida-- Lakeland Police have added a new communications service that allows them to send important, valuable community information directly to residents using the latest technology.
The system is called Nixle Community Information Service, and it allows Lakeland PD to create and publish messages for subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or email.
Notifications can also be accessed at Nixle's web site at www.nixle.com.
According to Lakeland PD, messages may include emergency alerts and crime information, as well as other relevant safety and community event information.
The messages can be sent specifically to residents registered within a 1/4 mile radius, which enables them to receive trustworthy information specifically regarding their neighborhood.
Lakeland PD reports that Nixle builds on the foundations of services like Twitter and Facebook, but adds the key component of security.
Lakeland Police want communications with the community to be timely, effective, and trusted; and Nixle makes it all possible, so Lakeland residents and those in surrounding areas can immediately begin receiving Nixle updates via text message, email, and web by registering at www.nixle.com.
