Lifestyle Family Fitness files notice of company layoffs | News

St. Petersburg, Florida -- It appears the reports that surfaced on Tuesday of the pending sale of Lifestyle Family Fitness are true.

The company filed a notice with the state Thursday that it will layoff 94 employees due to the sale.

Trade publication Club Industry reported Tuesday LA Fitness is about to buy out St. Petersburg-based Lifestyle Family Fitness. Calls to both companies were not returned to 10 News during the inital report.

Based on the notice (see attached PDF), the expected date of the initial separation will be on or after Aug. 16 when some of the employees will remain during the transition. However, all of the employees will eventually be let go by Dec. 31.

Lifestyle started in 1982 with one gym in Lakeland. There are now 33 locations in Florida.

Club Industry ranks LA Fitness as the #2 fitness chain in the country when it comes to revenue.
