Department of Transportation: Watch for nightly, single lane closures

Polk County, Florida-- The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) advises Polk County residents to watch for nightly, single lane closures along Polk Parkway, today through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

They say a milling and resurfacing project will occur eastbound, starting at milepost 8 at the Western Barrier plaza, continuing to the Central Barrier.

When complete, the construction crew will mill and resurface westbound through the same mile markers.

FDOT described the projcect in a recent release:

This $15.4 million project includes milling and resurfacing the roadway and paved shoulders, including ramps, from Mile Post (MP) 8.1 to 21.7.  The project includes reconstructing the side slope embankment from MP 9.49 to 9.51, and from 18.4 to 18.9. Full-depth reconstruction of the roadway will occur from MP 14.9 to 17.3.

The project runs from the Western Mainline Toll plaza through the Central and to the Eastern Mainline Toll Plaza. This includes the two-lane section from Old Dixie Highway to the Eastern Mainline Plaza. The area of deep reconstruction is between Exit 14, SR 540, and east of Exit 17, US 92.

All of the milling and resurfacing operations will occur from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. No work requiring a temporary lane closure will be done on Friday or Saturday nights.

The area requiring full-depth reconstruction will be done mostly during the day and will be performed behind temporary concrete barrier wall. In this area, one travel lane will be shut down around the clock for the duration of the full-depth reconstruction work.

Milling and resurfacing began on June 17, 2012.  This project is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2013.
