Lakeland, Florida-- Beginning Saturday, August 25, East Lake Parker Drive will be closed to thru-traffic from north of Wydine Drive to Old Combee Road for one week.
The Office of Homeland Security advised the closure for the safety of Lakeland Electric’s McIntosh power plant during the Republican National Convention n Tampa, Polk County officials said in a release.
Traffic will be detoured at Old Combee Road on the north side of the plant and onto East Idlewild Street on the south. This detour will be similar to past closures related to plant conveyor cleaning. Access to public fishing areas north of plant will be maintained.
The closed segment will reopen on Friday, August 31, but in the meantime, motorists are advised to avoid the area, obey traffic signs and allow more time for trips around the power plant.
For more information, contact Lakeland Electric Plant Manager Ron Kremann at 863-834-6684, or visit Polk County on the web.
