Road closures due to CSX repairs | News

Lakeland, Florida -- Starting this morning, Jan. 31, roadwork by CSX Transportation will require lane closures for up to two days at the Shepherd Road railroad crossing just west of State Road 37 (South Florida Avenue) in south Lakeland. 

Closures are needed to repave the crossing after track components were replaced last week along the railroad line. The Shepherd Road rail crossing is one of several throughout Polk County being upgraded as part of a broader, ongoing CSX railroad repair project. 

While traffic will not be detoured, lengthy delays and backups along Shepherd Road and Old Hwy. 37 are expected. 

The public is strongly advised to avoid area, if possible. Otherwise, motorists are urged to exercise caution, be alert to signs and flaggers and add extra time to trips through area.
