Husband gets 40 years for killing Sheriff's Office employee | News

Tampa, Florida -- A husband has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing his wife, who was also the Polk County Sheriff's office highest ranking civilian employee.

A jury convicted Lawrence Dickey back in December of second degree murder. Dickey says he doesn't remember beating Bea Dickey, his 44-year-old wife, to death with a baseball bat inside their Plant City Home while she slept.

Dickey told jurors during his trial the couple had a good time at a Journey concert just hours before the attack, but his drinking got out of control.

The last thing he says he remembers was the ride home, until he came to his senses after the attack.

Dickey's children and step-children testified during his trial.
