Lakeland, Florida - Proposed changes to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) rules may soon allow for net fishing at Polk County's Saddle Creek Park.

 The public is invited to attend a workshop on Monday, April 15, 2013 to participate in the rule-changing process.

Family Spring Break Hike Night at Bok

Bartow, Florida -- Bartow residents are invited to enjoy a Family Spring Break Night Hike at nearby Bok Tower Gardens.

Organizers say participants can "unravel the mysteries of nighttime sights and sounds in the Gardens after the sun goes down," and "watch for nocturnal animals, the glow of spider eyes and more while listening to the creatures of the night."

It's taking place between 7 and 9 p.m. this Thursday at Bok Tower Gardens.

Gator Wranglin' training

Gator Wranglin' training

Lakeland, FL - The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) conducted a multi-agency alligator handling and safety training class at the Lakeland Police Department firing range.

Wednesday's training was attended by 40 representatives from seven agencies in the southwest Florida area.

The training focused on the proper and safe way to secure alligators, as well as which agencies should be contacted in case of an emergency involving the animals.

County Nature Discovery Center to close for the holidays

Polk Co., FL-- Polk’s Nature Discovery Center will be closed December 22 - 25.The trails, however, will remain open the regular hours during this time.

Polk’s Nature Discovery Center is located in the Circle B Bar Reserve at 4399 Winter Lake Rd, Lakeland, FL.

Bartow, FL--  The Mosquito Control Section of the Parks and Natural Resources Division has intensified inspections and treatment of known mosquito breeding areas, and has scheduled ground and aerial sprayings of the area to control the population.

32nd Annual Swan Roundup

Lakeland, FL-- Time for the swans on Lake Morton to get their annual check-ups! Tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m., The City of Lakeland Parks Division will be on the lake for the 32nd Annual Swan Roundup to catch and herd the swans for their annual veterinary check-up. 

 

The swans will be confined in large holding pens on the south side of the lake for inoculations and wellness examinations that will start Wednesday morning at 7:30 a.m. with veterinarian Patricia Mattson, DVM.

Lakeland, Florida-- Huntin', fishin' and camo lovin' outdoors-men have an event to look forward to this weekend in Lakeland!

The Southern Trophy Hunter Big Buck Expo is scheduled to take place this weekend, beginning Friday, July 13 and ending Sunday, July 15. 

The event is said to be the largest hunting expo in all of Florida, focusing mainly on hunting and outdoor sports.
